First Year Advising and Exploration
Complete prior to your orientation session

You are required to complete the First Year Advising online modules before attending your orientation session. These modules will prepare you for course selection and registration at orientation. You will receive access to the modules approximately two weeks before your orientation session. Follow these steps to access the modules:

  • Visit UCF Webcourses and log in using your NID and NID password. Note: This is the same information you use to log into myUCF. Use the NID Reset Tool to reset your password, if needed.
  • After you have successfully logged in, access the “First Year Advising Modules" from the UCF Webcourses dashboard. Open the dashboard from the navigation menu on the left side of the screen, if the dashboard is not already opened.
  • Click on the course title and begin the modules with our welcome video.

The First Year Advising modules should take you approximately 25 minutes to complete. If you have any questions or concerns regarding these modules, please contact us and we will respond within 24-48 business hours.

Planning for your Orientation session

Connect with your College Advising Office

Admits for summer/fall 2016 and spring 2017 will transition to the college advising office of their major at the conclusion of the spring 2017 semester. If you are still undeclared you will remain assigned to FYAE until you have declared a major. Visit College Connections to learn more about your college advising office.

After planning your summer/fall 2017 schedule with your FYAE advisor, go to the “submit schedule” link at the top of the website and submit your schedule for review. Your college advising office will provide by email feedback concerning your course selections.

Last day for appointments is May 5, 2017

Requirements for FTIC students in the Knight Watch Program

FYAE requires FTIC students in the Knight Watch Program for the spring 2017 semester to complete the following program requirements:

  1. Submit Knight Watch Academic Questionnaire.
  2. Attend a Group Information Session during the second or third week of the semester. View our calendar for the session times and locations.
  3. Schedule a 30-minute advising appointment with your FYAE advisor. Call FYAE at 407/823-3789 to schedule your appointment.

At the Group Information Sessions students will receive information about the additional following program requirements:

  1. Meetings with their assigned Knight Watch Peer Mentor.
  2. Community Service activity.

Questions regarding requirements for the Knight Watch program should be sent to your assigned FYAE academic advisor.

Requirements for FTIC students placed on Academic Probation

FYAE requires FTIC students placed on Academic Probation for the spring 2017 semester to complete the following program requirements:

  1. Submit Academic Standing Questionnaire (ASQ)
  2. Attend a Group Probation Session (GPS) during the first week of classes (January 9-12)
  3. Schedule a one hour advising appointment with your FYAE advisor. Call FYAE at 407/823-3789 to schedule your appointment.
  4. Complete TWO (2) ACE Coaching Sessions with the Student Academic Resource Center (SARC)

FTIC Students placed on Academic Probation for spring 2017 should review their Knight's email account for more details about their change in academic standing and their requirements for FYAE during the spring 2017 semester.

Grade Forgiveness offers a student the opportunity to retake a course and earn a second grade that will be substituted for the previous grade. Students must be enrolled in the second attempt prior to applying for Grade Forgiveness and requests must be submitted no later than the Withdrawal deadline for the term/session in which the course is being repeated. Students can apply for Grade Forgiveness on myUCF through the Student Self Service Center.

This is an opportunity for you to meet the academic advisor that will be assisting you during your first year at UCF! The creators of The Dream Share Project documentary film and workshop will be on campus! The Dream Share Project film is a documentary that follows two recent college graduates on a cross-country road trip as they interview successful people who have pursued their dreams - entrepreneurs, activists, artists, athletes, inventors, etc. Along the way, the film explores topics like: how to discover one’s passion, commit to a dream, deal with setbacks, and redefine success.

Career Services, First Year Advising, and Department of Housing and Residence Life will be hosting The Dream Share Project on March 18th at 6:30pm in the Academic Village Courtyard.

This program is aimed to help you discover your passion. There will also be free food! Bring a blanket and a friend!

The UCF class schedule search for summer & fall 2015 and spring 2016 will be available beginning March 2nd. Your enrollment date is the date and time that you personally will begin to have access to register for classes (blue box on the right side of your myUCF Student Center). Office Closes December 24 at 5 PM

First Year Advising and Exploration will close on Friday, December 24 at 5 pm. The office will re-open on Monday, January 5 at 8 am.

If you have advising questions or concerns, please contact FYAE to setup an appointment with an available advisor. You may also send email messages to your advisor for quick questions.

Advisors will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for walk-in advising on Walk-in Wednesdays and other select days in Howard Phillips Hall 116. Walk-in advising is available for quick questions on a variety of topics. For more detailed questions and concerns, please schedule an appointment for greater time with your assigned academic advisor.

You must complete and print out the Walk-in Intake Form prior to checking in for a walk-in appointment. The following locations are available to print the form (some locations have printing fees):

  • UCF Library: Ground floor
  • Student Union SGA Express Printing Lab: 1st floor across from Kaplan Test Prep
  • Student Union SGA Computer Lab: Room 209
  • Breezeway - The SPOT: Across from Barnes and Nobles bookstore
  • UCF Technology Commons: Right next to the College of Science building

Advisors will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for walk-in advising during the first week of fall classes in Howard Phillips Hall 116. Students with any questions or concerns regarding their fall class schedules are encouraged to meet with an advisor through a walk-in appointment.

First Year Advisors Gregory Saunders and David Oglethorpe were recognized by UCF Student Development Enrollment Services (SDES) during the annual SDES appreciation celebration. Gregory Saunders was presented the LINK First Year Advocate Staff award, while David Oglethorpe took home the Outstanding New Professional award. Congratulations to Saunders and Oglethorpe on their well-deserved recognition.

Selected to Receive National Advising Award

David Oglethorpe was selected as the Winner of the Outstanding New Advisor Award - Primary Advising Role by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). Oglethorpe will be presented this award at the NACADA annual conference this Fall in Minneapolis, MN. Previously he received the Dr. Judith Sindlinger Outstanding New Advisor Award which recognizes new advisors here at UCF in December 2013. Please congratulate Oglethorpe on the national recognition for his contributions to the UCF community.

At the conclusion of the Spring 2014 semester you will transition to the college advising office of your major or the Sophomore & Second Year Center (if undeclared). Visit College Connections to learn more about your college advising office. After planning your Summer/Fall 2013 schedule with your FYAE advisor, go to the “submit schedule” link at the top of the website and submit your schedule for review. Your college advising office will provide by email any feedback concerning your course selections.

Career Services and First Year Advising will be hosting The Dream Share Project on March 19th at 6:30pm in the Academic Village Courtyard. Chip and Alexis, founders of the Dream Share Project, will be showcasing their documentary and sharing their experience of finding the meaning of following their dreams. This program is aimed to help you discover your passion. There will also be free barbeque!

First Year Scholars Reception 2014
RSVP Required for This Event!

Freshman students who earned a 3.5 GPA during the Fall semester are invited to attend the First Year Scholars Reception. The reception will be held on Wednesday, February 5 in the Pegasus Grand Ballroom. Eligible students received an email and link to RSVP for the event. The RSVP should be received no later than January 22 at 5 pm. No guests are allowed at the event.

Business casual is the recommended attire. Women should wear a dress, slack or khaki pants with appropriate top, or skirt with appropriate top. Men should wear a dress shirt with slack or khaki pants or a suit. Tie is optional.

Students not able to attend the reception are able to pick up their certificate at the First Year Advising and Exploration office any time after February 10.

Brendali Melgoza and David Oglethorpe Receive Awards

First Year Advising and Exploration academic advisors, Brendali Melgoza and David Oglethorpe, were recognized at the annual UCF Academic Advising Council award ceremony.

Melgoza received the Judy Boyte Innovative Academic Advising Award which recognizes outstanding innovation in academic advising at UCF. Melgoza was recognized for the creation of pre-orientation welcome videos for her students. This innovative welcome video was later incorporated by all FYAE academic advisors.

Oglethorpe received the Dr. Judith Sindlinger Outstanding New Advisor Award which recognizes outstanding new professional academic advisors. Oglethorpe was selected for this award, in part, for his effort to create the First Knights organization for First Generation students. Oglethorpe will be nominated for the national NACADA award for the professional new advisor role.

Congratulations Melgoza and Oglethorpe for their outstanding contributions to the UCF community!
