Posted by UCF Student Health Services on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 2:44 PM

On April 4th, students will have the opportunity to show their support for the UCF Smoke-Free Campus policy by collecting cigarette trash around the main campus. This will be the fifth time that the UCF Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) has hosted the event.

The four students collecting the most cigarette trash will be awarded $50 gift cards to Barnes and Noble. To participate, students should check-in at the smoke-free tent on the Student Union patio between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. that day to pick up their supplies. Students return their collected trash to the tent where it is recorded by volume and then disposed of by Environmental Health and Safety. This is an important milestone in the continuing growth and success of our health care organization. Pursuing accreditation shows our commitment to providing the highest levels of quality care to our patients, and the same high level of quality in our business practices. Achieving accreditation by AAAHC is proof that we have met the rigorous standards of a nationally-recognized third party.

We are proud to have met the challenge of accreditation, and intend to consistently uphold the principles of quality improvement in patient care in the future.

UCF Addresses Social Issues of Hunger and Homelessness
Posted by UCF Student Health Services on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 11:59 AM

With Thanksgiving approaching, many people start to think about what they are thankful for. It is also a time to share compassion with their neighbors who are experiencing homelessness, and work toward a world where no one has to experience hunger and homelessness.

Volunteer UCF, in collaboration with the Graduate Student Association and various campus partners, is hosting National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week at UCF, November 16-22.

The event will include a week-long donation drive, interactive educational events, powerful speakers, community resources and service projects. For schedule of events, view News Attachment: National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.

Donated items will benefit the Knights Helping Knights Pantry and the White Linen Project. For lists of the most needed items and locations, visit Facebook pages: https://www.facebook.com/KHKPantry and https://www.facebook.com/TheLinenProject.

The event is to raise awareness of hunger and homeless on the UCF campus and in the Central Florida community, educate individuals on resources available to assist those in need, and encourage people to get involved to help overcome these social issues.

Risk to UCF low
Posted by SDES IT on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 11:20 AM

UCF Health Services is monitoring the measles outbreak that has occurred in several other states. UCF feels adequately protected because of the mandatory vaccine policy, which requires all UCF students to document proof of critical immunizations prior to being able to register for their first class. This includes vaccination against measles.

The threat to campus is low. If a student suspects they may have measles, they should isolate themselves and call Health Services for further recommendations. Symptoms of measles include high fever, cough, runny nose and conjunctivitis. A rash could show after 3-4 days of symptoms, but not in all cases.
