Students Served Three-course Meal

Memory Mall is a sight to see any day of the week at UCF, but it was filled to capacity on February 9, 2017 for the first-ever UCF Gather Luncheon. More than 550 students were served a free three-course meal, thanks to a collective effort from nearly a dozen departments from the Division of Student Development and Enrollment Services and food partners UCF Dining Services, Coca-Cola, Pita Pita and Chicken Salad Chick.

The idea of the event was to get students to talk to each other about anything: social justice issues of the day, where each other is from or what your favorite movie is. The event featured two long rows (each stretching 292 feet down Memory Mall) seating 125 on each sides. The tables had center pieces and mason jars with ice-breaker questions inside of them.

Wellness and Health Promotion Services led the collaborative effort which featured a well-received peaceful rally from students with Global UCF over the currently suspended White House travel ban. Maureen Hawkins, director for WHPS, says the spirit of collaboration and partnership really made the event special, “With the many partners that were willing to come together to share with our community, our hope is people see that we are all here for each other. We believe that food is love-who couldn't use a little more love?”
