Beyond the Degree
On February 22, Career Services, in partnership with the Psychology Department, held the second annual Beyond the Degree – Careers in Psychology Panel in the Student Union Pegasus Ballroom.
The panel was moderated by a UCF Psychology alumni who is a current graduate student interning at Career Services. The panel was attended by 63 students, which represents a 66 percent increase in attendance. This was a great opportunity for students to ask questions and learn what career opportunities are available to them outside the field of clinical psychology.
Three organizations participated who were interested in hiring Psychology majors: ADP, The AppleTree Connection, and City Year. The campus recruiter from ADP and the founder of The AppleTree Connections are both UCF Psychology alumni.
One employer panelist said, “This is the kind of event I wish UCF would’ve had when I was a student because I think it would have been incredibly helpful to me as a student. I was very impressed with the student turn out, the students seemed very engaged and asked really good questions. Judging from their questions and their attention, I think the students found the event helpful and informative, in fact, I think all three panelists had a good number of students come up to us and ask us more questions once the event ended. One student even mentioned to me that she learned something at the event that she would have otherwise never known about if she hadn’t attended! So great job!”
“We are excited that this event supports the great partnership between SDES and the Psychology Department,” said, Lynn Hansen, executive director for Career Services. “Psychology is the largest major at UCF and one of the targets of Governor Scott’s Ready. Set. Work. Initiative set to reach 100 percent employment one year after graduation.
