Pegasus Parent Program
By: Elizabeth A. Manuel, Interim Associate Director, First Year Experience
April is Financial Literacy Month and it is a topic that is being taken to heart at the University of Central Florida. Students have a lot on their mind from maintaining grades, staying involved or pursuing internships, and ultimately continuing their time at UCF by funding their education. Every student has a different situation, but one thing remains constant; the importance of making educated financial decisions. PEGASUS, the Magazine of the University of Central Florida, recently featured a story regarding one major aspect of Financial Literacy: “Breaking Down Student Debt.” On average, UCF students owe less debt overall and 74% of UCF students are currently working full-time.

Additionally, UCF’s Office of Student Financial Assistance established Centsible Knights, a financial literacy program to educate students on the topic. Centsible Knights focuses on enhancing students’ financial knowledge and providing them with resources to make sound financial decisions.

Centsible Knights’ financial literacy program was ranked #19 on LendEDU’s survey “Top 50 College Financial Literacy Programs” around the country. Hundreds of colleges were ranked based on three parameters: (1) Number of Workshops and Resources Available; (2) Access to One-On-One Financial Consultation; (3) Incentivizing Programs Available.

Financial literacy is a broad topic that can consist of many layers. Money and how we manage it influences everyday decisions and more importantly future endeavors. Centsible Knights aims to meet the needs of students in a variety of formats. Your student can utilize online training modules on topics such as: Healthy Spending, Savings Goals, Understanding Earnings, Student Loan Management, Evaluating Credit, Protecting Personal Financial Information, and Planning Investments. Additionally, Centsible Knights coordinates in-person presentations with various campus partners, such as Career Services and FAIRWINDS, to provide additional training for students.

Encourage your students to begin their financial literacy journey now! Visit the Centsible Knights’ website for more information about the upcoming events.
